Happy Birthday, Jason Mraz!

I'm a huge fan of Jason Mraz, I love his music, his voice and his inspiring thoughts. Today is his Birthday and I read his blog recently at http://freshnessfactorfivethousand.blogspot.com/ .
I love it a lot and I would like to copy it into my blog and share with you who read my blog.
It's truly inspiring.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME
(Never mind the post date, I'm time zones ahead of my usual log-in spot. Here in Norway, it's almost 9am. Officially June 23rd.)

“I wish for the best.”

Ever since I can remember, when leaning into an illuminating display of candles over a cake, I’ve said these very words at wish time. Though superstition suggests you not tell others what you wish for, as it might not come true, I’ve always kept it to myself.

But now I’m old enough to know better. If it’s a wish, tell all. Faith is a powerful tool, but so are the deeds of thousands of people who might hear your call.

This year, instead of gifting anything to me (even though we love your hand rolled and twice baked goods thrown onto the stage) I’m asking that you be extra generous in your giving to others.

Today I invite you to give your time or attention to a person or a cause that would love to have you. (Grandma’s are a great start.)

Get clear or complete with someone today. Who or what have you been avoiding that has been costing you power? Call or visit with that person and let them know what’s on your mind simply as an act of love. See the real value in that person, even if that person’s only role has been to test your patience. Acknowledge that person for having done a great job. We are here NOW. Therefore, the past has been played out perfectly! It’s a win-win. So drop the grudge. Try on compassion, and feel that courage is a triumph of the soul!

Another way to not be so stingy is to practice kindness to everyone today. Every check out clerk, restaurant staff, janitor, tollbooth attendant, teacher and police officer you pass. Give them your most sincere hello. You are alive today and so are they. Everyone deserves acknowledgement since this day is all there is.

And for those feeling super generous with their pocket flow and would like to actually invest in something, I invite you to donate a dollar or enroll with a charity/organization that moves you. The ones that need your love the most are right there in your own community. Humane Societies, Theatre Groups, Hospitals, Historical Societies, and Schools especially are always happy to take your money.

A few of my favorite organizations are:
Survival-International.Org - Fighting for Land Rights and Human Rights of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples
Surfrider Foundation - Keeping our Coasts Clean for Recreation
LifeRollsOn.Org - Inspiring those with Spinal Cord Injuries and supporting scientific breakthroughs in Spinal Cord Research
VH1 Save the Music - Working Hard to Keep Music in Schools
American Heart Association - #1 Voluntary Health Organization fighting Cardiovascular Disease

Last night in Oslo, just as the clock struck twelve, I was carried into the new day by the harmonic voices of these Norwegian women pictured below. Their version of Happy Birthday was not unlike other screechy teen hurrah heard shouting thru the alley, but I am grateful for their song. Thank you ladies. And thank you near blue sky seen at the midnight hour. I am always touched by the majesty of a 6 hour sunset.

I’d also like to thank songstress Marit Larsen and company for stopping by and singing Lucky with us. And finally, I’d like to thank the designer of the keen device that let me hook my mug by the door handle while I fetched my room key. Best invention ever. Good job!

Happy giving!…

Onward to Denmark.
